Younger Children and Early Elementary
Day 16
READ: The young hero and the horrible giant: David and Goliath, from 1 Samuel 17, p. 122-129.
ACTIVITY: Take a walk and find five smooth stones and or look up on the internet instructions on how to make a sling shot and then make one. Maybe even go outside and practice using it. (Only shoot a target, never at live animals or people, and always have an adult present.) God can use small people and things to do big work.
Option for the younger set: Build a “giant” out of boxes stacked high. Draw a face, etc. How does it feel to be next to something so tall? David was not scared because God was with him.
ORNAMENT IDEAS: Hang a pouch or bag of 5 stones, or a sling shot on the tree.
This ornament reminds us that God used young David to do big work for Him.
Older Elementary
Day 16
READ: p.274-281, “A Psalming Influence”, & “A Giant Challenge”.
ACTIVITY: David had courage because he believed in the power of God. What are some big challenges in your life? How can the power of God help you? Write some of your thoughts in your journal.
ORNAMENT: A pouch of five stones or a sling. This ornament reminds us that God used young David to do big work for Him.
Scripture reading: 1 Samuel 17
