Leave it Behind

November 30

Day 4

Listen to: "Rise Up, Shepherd and Follow"

This song echo’s the shepherd’s response to the Angels message about the birth of Jesus. Once the Angel’s left, the shepherds said to one another, let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place. (Luke 2:8ff). Can you hear it? The shepherd with the greatest influence in the group calls the others to follow and leave the sheep behind! During this Advent season, reflect on what you need to leave behind to follow Jesus.

Activity with Kids:

Talk with your kids about the angel’s message that Jesus was born. Ask them what they think they would have done if they were a shepherd? This song talks about leaving their sheep to see the baby. What might they need to leave behind, or put aside this Advent so they can spend time with Jesus?

Move the angels ahead one note.

"Rise Up, Shepherd And Follow" by Robert Mathes

There's a star in the East on Christmas morn, Rise up shepherd and follow. It will lead to the place where the Saviour's born, Rise up shepherd and follow. Follow, follow, Rise up shepherd and follow. Follow the star of Bethlehem. Rise up shepherd and follow. Leave your sheep and leave your lambs Rise up shepherd and follow. Leave you ewes and leave your rams. Rise up shepherd and follow. Follow, follow, Rise up shepherd and follow. Follow the star of Bethlehem. Rise up shepherd and follow. If you take good heed to the angel's words. Rise up shepherd and follow. You'll forget your flocks; you'll forget your herds. Rise up shepherd and follow. Follow, follow, Rise up shepherd and follow. Follow the star of Bethlehem. Rise up shepherd and follow.
